Brazil midfielder Duda Sampaio is confident that Marta will equal the Olympic scoring record when Brazil face the Super Falcons in their opening game of the 2024 Olympic Games scheduled for Thursday evening at the Stade Matmut-Atlantique (Bordeux).
Marta’s Record-Breaking Potential
Known as the queen of football by the Confederation of Brazilian football, Marta will be participating in her sixth Olympic Games.
She is a record goalscorer for Brazil, netting 118 goals in 183 appearances for her country. At the Olympic Games, Marta has scored 13 goals and thus, she is very close to the record held by Cristiane.
In a recent report from Sportsbuddy, former Corinthians player Adriana highlights that the major factor to beat the Super Falcons lies in the management of small things. “A detail from a set piece, for instance, whether it is to score a goal or to deny the opponents the chance to score a goal”
The Orlando Pride star has a chance to break the record outright provided she scores two goals against the Super Falcons.
Support from Teammates
Duda Sampaio has pledged to help Marta in making history. According to Globo, Sampaio said: “I hope so (pass to Marta to break the record). We train very closely together, so this connection is very fine-tuned.
Whoever is there at the moment, whether midfielder or attacker, can provide the assists and will always be very good for the team. ”
Ana Vitória, Marta’s teammate at Atlético Madrid, emphasized Marta’s importance: ”Marta has a big impact in our day to day lives She is our role model both on and off the pitch She is well conditioned both at the club and at national team level She has been in good run of form which makes us very happy. ”
Historic Opportunity Against The Falcons
The match against the Super Falcons could also turn Marta into the first male or female player in history to score a goal in six consecutive Olympics. After facing Brazil this evening, the Super Falcons have two more challenging opponents in the group stage: reigning world champions Spain and 2011 world champions Japan.
