Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, has said that not being part of United’s FA Cup triumph, and England’s run to the final of the European Championship has been the most challenging period in his career.
“When I first did the injury I thought I would be fit for the FA Cup final,” Maguire explained.
“So I tried as hard as I could for the final and then I incurred an injury in the week to the final and hence was out of the final. ”
Harry Maguire’s Frustration and Setbacks
Speaking to the Athletic, Maguire also stated his disappointment in the situation where he is unable to play for his club and country. “At that time again, it was no problem, I was going to be fit for the Euros. Then I went away with England and I had another setback, so yeah, it was so frustrating. ”
Looking at what he did, he said: “If I had any sense, I wish I had no shot with all of them to try to understand it better.
But I thought I was going to play in the cup tournament or at least participate in some way, and I was one hundred percent convinced that I would participate in the Euros. ”
Future at Manchester United
However, Harry Maguire continues to state that his long-term future remains at Old Trafford.
United signed Leny Yoro and made bids for Jarrad Branthwaite and Matthijs de Ligt. “As far as I am not informed that you are available for sale or ‘we want you to go’, I want to play for this club and help it become great again. ”
He quickly brushed aside suggestions that Erik ten Hag’s training regime had a hand in it. “It was not because he was over driving us in training. In fact he let up on us in the last few weeks because of the number of players he was losing to injuries that he could not afford to lose anymore. ”
Maguire had one year remaining on his United contract, though there is an option for a further year.
Even though United accepted a £30m bid from West Ham during the summer, he remained adamant that he will feature many more times for the club under Ten Hag.
Speaking about the new signing Yoro, Maguire said, “Remember he is still very young, there are going to be mistakes, but he has all the qualities of a modern day center back, so definitely he will have a great future. ”
