Super Eagles and Bayer Leverkusen attacker Nathan Tella has opened up about situations surrounding his departure from Arsenal.
Tella started his football career with the 13-time League winners, progressing through the development systems of Arsenal before making the U-18 squad.
However, the Nigerian attacker parted ways with the Gunners at the age of 17, marking the end of his stay at the club.
He was later called up to Southampton’s U-23 squad following a successful trial with the club.
Super Eagles forward Nathan Tella speaks on Arsenal departure
Tella, in an interview, disclosed that he was embarrassed about leaving Arsenal and found it difficult to inform his friends and family.
“For me, it was a bit of an embarrassment because I didn’t know how I was going to tell all my friends and family that I was leaving Arsenal,” the Super Eagles attacker said, per talkSPORT,
“It was tough because I didn’t know what I wanted to do. Maybe stay at Arsenal, try to force their hand and make another decision, or if I was to go out on trials,” he added.
Tella, however, decided to explore his potentials elsewhere, eventually joining Southampton after trials at Reading and Norwich. He was later loaned out to Burnley, helping them gain promotion to the Premier League.
The 25-year-old forward now plies his trade in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen and was part of the invincible team that recently won the German double.
