UEFA have imposed hefty fine on the FA for the behavior of England fans during four of the Three Lions’ games at Euro 2024, according to reports from The Sun.
England fined for fan disturbance
England was fined a total of £45015 (€53,375) for disruptive incidents, which occurred during the European Championships in Germany earlier this month.
Gareth Southgate side’s campaign at the Euros was at times, frustrating for fans to watch, with the team failing to record convincing wins, including in knockout encounters.
They eventually secured their spot in final in Berlin, but fell short of winning trophy once again losing 2-1 to La Roja.
It has now been calculated that the fans’ actions have cost the FA over £45,000. This is due to disturbances during England’s clashes against Slovakia Switzerland, Denmark and Spain. The €10000 (£8,400) fine was imposed after fans booed the Slovenia national anthem.
Supporters were heard loudly jeering before the final Euro 2024 group game, which took place in Cologne on June 25, against Slovakia.
In the quarter-final clash against Switzerland England narrowly secured victory in penalty shootout (5-3)
In the semi-final it was Ollie Watkins’s last-minute strike that propelled Three Lions into their second consecutive Euro final.
However, fans who expected former boss Southgate’s side to breeze through tournament grew increasingly frustrated, sparking series of unruly behaviours from them.
This punishment contributes to a number of sanctions handed by the European governing body for football, after the Euro 2024 tournament.
Sports Buddy recently reported that UEFA extended their ruthless disciplinary rod to seven other countries that participated in the just-concluded Euro 2024 tournament.
