The West Ham United forward, Riko Ueki, has threatened the Super Falcons before their 2024 Olympic match on Wednesday at the Stade de la Beaujoire, Nantes.
Ueki, the West Ham Women’s Young Hammer of the year for the 2023/2024 season, has twelve international goals out of which she scored two against the African countries of Zambia and Ghana.
As Japan enters final matches of Group C, they are placed second with three points after a dramatic 2-1 victory over Brazil as Saki Kumagai and Momoko Tanikawa scored during the additional time.
Falcons Struggle In Paris
Nigeria’s Super Falcons are yet to register a victory in the tournament, having fallen to Spain and Brazil respectively by small margins.
Meanwhile, Sportsbuddy earlier reported that Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala attributed the two consecutive losses of the team at the on-going Olympic Games in France to poor conversion of chances.
They are one of the best defensive sides but possess the worst attack as they have not scored any goal in 120 minutes plus extra time.
Ueki’s Plans For Falcons
Ueki reiterated Japan’s strategy, which was to get goals against Nigeria. In comments relayed by Nikkan Sports, she said.
‘Of course, we want to score goals through attack, but if we can get on the right foot, that can change the situation. ’ as reported by Nikkan Sports.
‘Aggression in defense is one of our strengths. A team that isn’t really the type to build up plays, so we have to find the opportunity up front. ”
Japan’s Road To Paris
Japan’s warm-up matches involved a 4-0 victory against Ghana on July 13, 2024, which saw Ueki get on the scoresheet.
This dominant performance helps build Japan’s confidence as they prepare for the match against Nigeria.
The clash tends to be an exciting one as both teams expect to advance to the next stage of the Olympic Games.
