The news of the banishment of one of ‘Chelsea’s best performers’ has not been met with open arms from fans.
Previous reports from Sports Buddy reported that 25-year-old midfielder Conor Gallagher was informed by the club that he would not be part of the first team next season.
Gallagher had turned down a three-year deal offered by the Blues because he wanted a longer deal.
He wants to stay at Stamford Bridge; however, he is unhappy about being offered a shorter deal compared to his other teammates, who were handed seven- to eight-year deals.
Chelsea have made an attempt to sell Gallagher initially, having agreed to a £57.5 million fee with Aston Villa, but the player declined the offer.
Spanish side Atletico Madrid are the latest suitors looking to acquire the England international, with reports claiming a £33 million deal has been agreed between both clubs.
Chelsea fans react to Gallagher’s banishment
Amid the whole transfer saga, fans have taken to social media to express their displeasure over Chelsea’s treatment of Gallagher, who many claimed to be one of their best performers last season, according to stats.
One wrote, “Whether you rate him or not the reports of him being exiled are embarrassing. Our academy products should be treated with more respect.”
A third reacted: “Absolutely insane, what a joke of a club.”
Gallagher is expected to train with fellow exiled academy graduate Trevoh Chalobah away from Maresca’s team as the Blues also try to offload him.
