Manchester United has finally secured young Swedish international Anna Sandberg on a three-year contract with an option to extend a year as announced on the club’s official website.
The defender is coming from BK Hacken where she has been playing in the Champions League since July 2022. She was also part of the Sweden team that reached third place in the 2023 FIFA Women World Cup.
Manchester United Break Transfer Record
The transfer makes her the most expensive Swedish women’s player ever, breaking the record set by Hanna Bennison when Everton signed her for £150000 in 2021.
The 21-year-old full-back is United’s fourth signing of the summer after Dominique Janssen, Elisabeth Terland and Melvine Malard.
Excitement and Expectations
“I want to say that I am very happy and grateful to sign for such a big club as Manchester United” Sandberg said before adding, “I hope that I will be able to help our team with my qualities and bring many victories to our great fans. ”
Manager Marc Skinner commented, “We are thrilled to welcome Anna into the Manchester United team. She is a promising rising talent who has represented her national team and played in the Champions League level. We expect her to grow more in the team. ”
United was the fifth in the Women’s Super League (WSL) last season, but they won the Women FA Cup for the first time in their history as reported by Sportsbuddy. They will start their 2024/25 season against West Ham United at Old Trafford during the weekend of September, 21/22.
