La Liga side Atletico Madrid are close to signing Manchester City’s forward Julian Alvarez. While a complete agreement is still pending, and the main points of discussion are the last details of the price and payment.
More has been achieved since the discussions began last week. The transfer fee is expected to be at least five times more than the £14m that City paid River Plate for the Argentina international in January 2022 according to David Ornstein.
Alvarez who has been linked with a move to several top European clubs has no problem concerning the personal terms.
In a recent report from Sportsbuddy, Former Arsenal player William Gallas has urged Mikel Arteta to sign Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez in a bid to take Arsenal ‘up a gear’.
The 24-year-old is one of several South Americans at City, would follow a pattern of players leaving for significant profit after contributing to the club’s success.
Although he was often in the shadow of Erling Haaland, Alvarez contributed to the City’s achievements in winning two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, and the Champions League.
Last season he featured in 54 matches, having netted 19 goals and created 13 assists.
He was also part of the Argentina team that won the 2022 Fifa World Cup and holds two Copa America titles, earning 36 caps for his country.
Chelsea’s Chase for Samu Omorodion
The events concerning Alvarez have made Atletico Madrid think twice before selling Samu Omorodion.
Chelsea are now keen on the Spanish forward for a price of around €40 (£34. 4) million.
The south west London club had a €32. £28 million ($50 million) plus add-ons bid turned down for Omorodion in June.
The 20-year-old had a stint at Deportivo Alaves in the previous season in which he netted nine goals and created one more in the process as the finished 10th on the La Liga table.
Independent Transfer Moves
This potential transfer is not linked with the current negotiations between Chelsea and Napoli for the exchange of different players such as Romelu Lukaku and Victor Osimhen.
Also, David Datro Fofana and Armando Broja will be set to depart Stamford Bridge on a permanent deal this summer.
