Andre Onana has sent a warning to Manchester United fans ahead of the 2024–2025 season.
The Cameroonian goalkeeper, who found it hard to settle in after his £47.3 million move from Inter Milan last summer, having replaced the legendary David de Gea, was in the news on numerous occasions, most times for the wrong reasons.
The 28-year-old shot-stopper was subjected to constant criticism from fans and football personalities due to his disappointing start at the club, where his mistakes resulted in a disastrous Champions League campaign.
Onana did have an improved performance as the season went on; however, that did not take away all the blemishes, as he ended his debut season conceding a massive 58 goals in the Premier League alone.
A major concern from the Manchester United fan base has always been his risky style of play, trying to find the perfect pass, which draws errors leading to goals.
Onana, who is regarded as a ball-playing goalkeeper, was brought in to fit into Erik Ten Hag’s system. But things did not turn out as planned, with the Cameroonian international being a culprit for some of the goals conceded.
Andre Onana’s message to fans
Ahead of the season, Onana has revealed that he has no plans to change his style, regardless of what the fans think.
“I think it’s what you’re going to see this season because I will take a lot of risks,” he said, per ESPN.
“I can tell you in advance already! Be prepared because it’s going be (like that) this season, trust me! I will enjoy it even more when this season starts.
“The best team in the world takes risks. Building from the back, recognizing things, situations, when the opponent jumps one against one or when they press with three or with four.”
Andre Onana is expected to be in goal when the Red Devils take on rivals Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 11 and will be hoping to help his team clinch a first trophy going into the new season.
