Chelsea’s new signing Moises Caicedo has stated that he faced challenges while at Chelsea because of the pressure he felt from the £115 Million Price Tag.
The Ecuadorian joined from Brighton last August for a fee that could rise to a British record.
In his inaugural campaign at the club, Caicedo featured in 48 matches as Chelsea ended the season in the sixth position in the English top tier under Mauricio Pochettino.
Overcoming Initial Challenges
According to him as quoted by LondonNews, he admitted the pressure at Chelsea was much higher than at Brighton.
Recalling his beginnings Caicedo stated, “The beginning was very difficult for me because you arrive to a big club with a huge transfer fee, and you have to win every game. ”
Pressure stemmed from the weight of club history and the quality of players involved. Although, in the past four or five months, Caicedo felt more comfortable at the club.
Help from Coaches and Mentors
For Caicedo, he said that he has received support from the manager Mauricio Pochettino and his coaching staff at difficult moments.
Although he already questioned Pochettino’s approach in a previous report from Sportsbuddy.
“They were with me when I felt like I was not the same Moises,” he said. [I asked them] ‘Please help me because I want to show my quality, my football’. They were with me.
Furthermore, Caicedo spoke about having a personal tutor who was not part of the club and assisted him deal with the mental set up.
This support network helped him rebuild his morale and prove himself on the field as a talented player.
Looking Forward with Maresca
Enzo Maresca who signed Chelsea from Leicester after their promotion to the English Premier League has been involved with the squad during this pre-season.
Caicedo appreciates Maresca’s approach, saying “He wants me to show my quality, to have good personality, to show my teammates that I am the boss on the pitch. ”
