Nigeria’s Israel Adesanya, popularly known as ‘The Last Style Bender’, was defeated by South Africa’s Dricus du Plessis the main event of UFC 305 at Perth, Australia’s RAC Arena, in the early hours of Sunday.

As seen in a video posted by UFC on X, Du Plessis submitted Adesanya in the fourth round, ending his hopes of the Nigerian-born fighter winning the UFC middleweight championship.

It was an intense bout from the outset, but Du Plessis tactically slowed down the game by skillfully combining leg kicks and blitzes, while Adesanya, one of the top 10 biggest UFC stars (2024), also created scoring opportunities with his own long-range strikes.

Despite getting back to his feet in the second round and mounting some effective counterattacks, Adesanya struggled to resist Du Plessis’ dominant grappling.

The Last Style bender took over in the third round with strong bodywork, and Du Plessis, worn out, restricted his offensive and refrained from engaging in grappling. But everything changed when the fight went into the championship rounds.

In the fourth round, Du Plessis managed to secure a takedown after setting himself up with his right hand. Adesanya had no choice but to tap out, ending the bout, as he swiftly switched to a rear-naked choke.
