Napoli’s sporting director, Giovanni Manna, has revealed that Victor Osimhen’s unresolved transfer situation is causing delays in the club’s transfer activities as they seek a new club for the Nigerian striker.
Osimhen attracted interests from top clubs including Chelsea, Arsenal, and Paris Saint-Germain following his performances for the club, which saw him score 31, and 17, goals for Napoli in his last two seasons.
Victor Osimhen’s transfer saga
However, no deal has yet to materialise, with none of the interested clubs being able to meet up with his hefty release clause.
Despite the 25-year-old’s request to leave Naples, he faces the possibility of remaining at the club for another season, while Napoli would also miss out on the opportunity of signing their target.
Napoli are interested in bringing in Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea, and this is contingent on Osimhen leaving the club.
Sports Buddy previously reported that Napoli and Chelsea were exploring a potential swap deal involving Victor Osimhen, with the Blues willing to part with Lukaku and one other player and an additional £39 million to secure the Nigerian striker.
However, no deal has been confirmed, with Osimhen being left out of the matchday squad that lost 3-0 to Hellas Verona.
Napoli director on Victor Osimhen’s effect on lack of transaction activities
With all transactions seemingly at a standstill, Napoli director Giovanni Manna has addressed the situation, stating that they might need to consider sticking with the former Lille attacker.
“He [Victor Osimhen] is under contract for another two seasons, so clearly if we don’t find a solution by August 30, we’ll have to talk to the player,” he said, as per Goal.
However, he admits that the club is not happy with the situation, while stating that the plan was to be fully ready for the season.
“Absolutely not. We too are not happy with this situation, we wanted to be more ready for the start of the season.
“We didn’t manage it [More signings] for many reasons, the most obvious being the one we just talked about,” he added.
Osimhen’s future remains uncertain, with both the club and the player seeking a mutually beneficial agreement.
