NOBODY CAN, EXCEPT THE GUNNERS! Arsenal on verge of NEVER-SEEN-BEFORE Premier League record as new season begins

Arsenal are on course for an unprecedented Premier League record only they can set, however, this does not guarantee the title.

In the last two seasons, Mikel Arteta’s team finished second in the league, coming behind Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on both occasions.

The Gunners are close to reaching an agreement to sign Euro 2024 winner Mikel Merino. This comes after the Gunners signed versatile defender Ricardo Calafiori from Bologna to an already solid backline that conceded just 29 goals in the League last season.

Having bolstered their squad, the Gunners believe this might be the year they unseat Manchester City from the top flight in England.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are on the verge of becoming the first side in Premier League history to increase their point tally in five consecutive years.

Speaking on Monday Night Football, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher reminded the audience that the Gunners had a chance to break the record this season.

Arsenal had 89 points at the end of the previous season, five more than they had in 2023.

They finished in fifth position in 2022 with 69 points.

And in 2021, Arsenal finished eight with 61 points.

Interestingly, the Gunners placed eighth once more in 2020 despite having fewer points (56).

And Carragher, highlighting this trajectory, has said this is another opportunity to better last season’s tally, which would make them the first team to do so in five straight years.

“Something that’s interesting about Arsenal, no team in Premier League history has improved their position five years in a row, Carragher said,” as quoted by The Sun.

“Arsenal have done it four years in a row, and to go beyond where they did last year is going to be tough.” he added.

Fellow analyst Gary Neville also thinks the Gunners can have a successful season.

He added, “Arsenal had an incredible season so I was not a million miles away.

“They are getting nearer and I feel they will do it. Pep Guardiola wins all the time but I feel Arsenal are so consistent that this could be the year.

“Arsenal are getting to such a high level now of consistency, defensive solidity, the balance of the team, they look like they have got a great spirit.”

Meanwhile, the Gunners started their league campaign with a home win against Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend.

The game, which ended 2-0 in favour of Arteta’s men, also saw Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera escape punishment on two accounts, one of which was an inappropriate homo-esque incident, and this infuriated the club fans as many expressed displeasure on social media.

The Gunners travel to Aston Villa next weekend and will be aiming to take all three points as they look to secure their first league title since the 2003-2004 ‘Invincible’ season.
