Ex-Arsenal star Granit Xhaka has sent the internet in frenzy after scoring a wonder goal for Bayer Leverkusen as the Invincible German champions started the new season in familiarly dramatic style.
The 31-year-old star was in action as the Bundesliga champions got off to an impressive start in the opening game of their title defense. emerging 3-2 winners over Borussia Monchengladbach.
After going undefeated throughout the domestic campaign last term, Leverkusen traveled to Borussia Monchengladbach for their season opener on Friday night.
And Xabi Alonso’s team didn’t take long to remind supporters of the reason they toppled Bayern Munich the previous season.
Xhaka, broke the deadlock with a rocket strike from thirty yards out after getting on the end of a deflected Jeremie Frimpong cross.
The midfielder had a muted celebration, as a sign of respect for his former club, having played for Monchengladbach between 2012 and 2016 before joining Arsenal.
