‘We don sign German Frank Lampard’ – Nigerians lament following Bruno Labbadia’s appointment as Super Eagles head coach

Nigerians have not met the appointment of Bruno Labbadia as the new Super Eagles head coach with open arms.

Labbadia was announced new head coach of the Nigerian national team via a statement released by the NFF in the early hours of Tuesday.

The 58-year-old’s first challenge will be to guide the team through the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda, which will be followed by the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

While the NFF has finally appointed a permanent manager, Labbadia’s lack of pedigree, particularly his trophy less managerial career, has raised concerns among fans.

Another commented, ”Like NFF Like INEC. MIDNIGHT TEAM…UNA DON GO SIGN GERMAN LAMPARD IN THE NAME OF FOREIGN COACH.”

A third said, ”Labbadia won just 1 out of 11 games in charge of Stuttgart. He was sacked in 2023 after just 4 months in charge as the team sank to the bottom of the league.”

A fourth remarked, ”Una don give us another fraud as coach.”
