Arsenal are reportedly preparing legal action against Manchester United over the transfer of young talent Chido Obi-Martin.
Football journalist Christopher Michel claims that the Gunners believe Obi-Martin, a promising prospect in their academy, joined United improperly.
The 19-year-old striker, who scored 32 goals and provided three assists in 24 games for Arsenal’s under-18 team last season, was available on a free transfer due to his expiring contract, with United swooping in to sign the Nigerian-born talent.
But The Athletic previously reported that the Red Devils might owe the Gunners a fee due to the player’s age. The transfer also required Premier League ratification.
Arsenal and Manchester United drag case to court
While both clubs initially hoped to avoid legal proceedings, the dispute appears to have escalated to the point where Arsenal are looking to take the case to court.
Michael wrote on X, “Although Chido Obi Martin’s contract at #Arsenal has expired, I heard that #MUFC can’t just sign him on a free transfer.
“Very complicated… He is therefore only training individually and has not yet been presented. Possibly this will go before a court.”
