Austin Eguaveon will once again take the reins as interim coach of the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, following the Nigerian Football Federation’s failed attempts to secure a deal for Bruno Labbadia.
The NFF recently announced that Labbadia will be taking over as national team coach; however, the deal fell through due to complications in paper works.
Eguaveon appointed as interim coach of Super Eagles
Following the collapse in negotiations with the German coach, the NFF has announced that Austin Eguaveon will once again take on the role of interim coach for the Super Eagles, according to Sahara reporters.
This will be Eguaveon’s third stint with the national team, having led the team in 2010-2011 and 2021-2022.
The Super Eagles will begin their qualifying campaign for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco next month.
They will face Benin Republic and Rwanda on September 7th and 10th, respectively.
Despite recent struggles, failing to record a win in as many as four games, the team will be hoping for a strong start under the guidance of Eguaveon, who has previously drawn comparisons between his coaching style and that of Pep Guardiola.
