Napoli have revealed their plans for Victor Osimhen after his attempt to force a move from the club this summer failed.
Despite interest from several clubs, including a transfer deadline-failed transaction with Saudi side Al Ahli, Osimhen’s was unable to see his wish to move from the club fulfilled.
Osimhen had been absent from Napoli’s senior team training since the beginning of the month, missing their pre-season matches as well, in an attempt to force a transfer away from Italy.
Napoli, on the other hand, had already saved for the rainy day by bringing in Romelu Lukaku as a replacement for the wantaway striker.
As a result, Osimhen has been completely axed out of the squad, potentially facing several months without playing any club competitive football.
Napoli Sporting Director on Victor Osimhen situation
Speaking in a recent interview with DAZN, Napoli’s Sporting Director, Giovanni Manna, explained the current situation with Osimhen and expressed confidence in the team’s ability to continue performing well without the 2023 CAF Player of the Year.
“We’ve made significant investments; we brought in Lukaku and kept Raspadori and Simeone, which wasn’t guaranteed,” Manna said, as quoted by Napoli Zone.
He continued, ”Right now, we are sticking to our consistent approach that we’ve had from the start.
”Victor has expressed his desire not to play for Napoli, and we have made other choices.
”The market is still open, there are many options, but I don’t think Victor will be going to Saudi Arabia in this transfer window.”
