France has announced that Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana will not play for the national team in the upcoming international window, this despite being called up for the first time in close to a year and a half.
The 23-year-old defender will stay at Cobham instead of going to the Didier Deschamps team, despite featuring a full 90 minutes against the respective team on Sunday.
Not Fitness-Related, Say Reports
Fofana did not play at all last season due to an injury that occurred before Chelsea’s 2023 preseason tour to America under Mauricio Pochettino.
Nonetheless, he has shown good form again after joining Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge.
However, it must also be noted that his recent pullout from the French squad is not thought to have been because of his fitness conditions.
Après un échange avec Didier Deschamps, Wesley Fofana va finalement rester à la disposition de Chelsea et mettre à profit la trêve internationale pour suivre un protocole de soins, lié aux blessures qui l’avaient longuement éloigné des terrains la saison passée.

Meanwhile, in a previous report from Sportsbuddy, Wesley Fofana refuted social media allegations that accused him of miming a phone conversation to avoid Chelsea fans after Chelsea’s 6-2 success against Wolves.
Fofana to Undergo Treatment During Break
Of course, there are always going to be concerns in the minds of Chelsea supporters when Fofana is not part of the squads, due to his innury records.
However, he has successfully partnered with Levi Colwill in the defence this summer. During the international break, Fofana will “carry out a treatment plan, which is related to the injuries that sidelined the young star last season.”
The French national team have replaced the Chelsea defender with Loic Balde from Sevilla.
