Former Wolves striker Rafa Mir, was taken into custody on charges of sexual assault.
The 27-year-old, who is now on loan from Sevilla to La Liga team Valencia, was arrested last night and did not show up for training this morning.
According to sources familiar with the ongoing investigation, Spanish radio station SER reported that Mir and another individual were detained on suspicion of sexual assault against two women, aged 21 and 25, during a party at the footballer’s home.
It is said that local police were first sent to the residence to handle concerns about a potential fight and to break up the party before departing.
Police statement of sexual assault case
A police statement read, as quoted by The Sun,
“We can confirm a LaLiga footballer has been arrested over an alleged sexual assault.
“No-one else has been arrested at the moment but that may change later.
“The man who has been detained is currently in police custody.”
His team, Valencia issued a statement regarding the situation, citing sources inside the organization as saying they will wait to make a decision regarding Mir’s future until the current inquiry against him concludes.
