The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that Aliyu Zubairu has been appointed to take charge of the Flying Eagles as the head coach.
As reported by the Premium Times, the move was accepted by the NFF’s Executive Committee to put into action after an endorsement of the Technical and Development Subcommittee.
Zubairu recently led the El-Kanemi Warriors to victory in the President Federation Cup and will be in this new position from now on.
Immediate Task for WAFU B U20 Championship
Zubair has the main responsibility of selecting and charging the Flying Eagles for the upcoming WAFU B U20 Championship scheduled for October and November in Togo.
This tournament will help to select the zone’s qualifier for the Africa U20 Cup of Nations in 2017. The future of Bruno Labbadia’s tenure as the head coach of the Super Eagles remains uncertain.
Bruno Labbadia’s Super Eagles Appointment in Limbo
In a related development, the anticipated debut of Bruno Labbadia as the head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles has hit a roadblock due to unresolved contract issues with the NFF.
As reported previously by Sportsbuddy, BBC reporter Shina Okeleji revealed that the NFF tried to close the deal, which was expected to be completed by last Friday.
“Nigeria is hoping to finalise contractual details with German coach Bruno Labbadia on the 30th of August to enable him to travel to Uyo and take charge of the Super Eagles in AFCON qualifying fixtures against Benin and Rwanda.
“The desperate NFF announced Labbadia’s appointment without sorting T&C and contract.”
The u-turn of the appointment has raised concerns, particularly with AFCON qualifying matches against Benin and Rwanda on the horizon.
