Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 900th career goal in Portugal’s 2-0 victory over Croatia in the UEFA Nations League.
The 39-year-old scored the winning goal in the game to reach this remarkable milestone, extending his lead with long-time rival Lionel Messi.
Ronaldo’s achievement follows his declaration that he would reach 1,000 goals before retiring.
Cristiano Ronaldo on World Cup and Euros
The Al Nassr, during an interview with RTP3, said he believes his accomplishments with the Portugal national team are on par with Messi’s in Argentina after scoring his incredible 900th career goal.
“Portugal winning the Euros is the equivalent of winning the World Cup.
“I’ve already won two trophies for Portugal that I really wanted, so I’m not motivated by that [World Cup],” Ronaldo said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano on X.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was a part of the Portuguese squad that surprised everyone by winning the 2016 European Championship.
After suffering an injury in the tournament final and having to leave in tears, Ronaldo stepped up to coach alongside manager Fernando Santos, helping his teammates come through it.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s new milestone is just one among several other unique records held by only the former Real Madrid player.
