Portuguese captain Cristiano Ronaldo has caused a stir with his latest comment, where he equated the European Championship to the World Cup.
Ronaldo, who recently reached an incredible goal-scoring milestone, said in an interview with RTP3 that he believes his achievements with the Portugal national team, including winning the Euros in 2016, are on par with winning the World Cup.
“Portugal winning the Euros is the equivalent of winning the World Cup.
“I’ve already won two trophies for Portugal that I really wanted, so I’m not motivated by that [World Cup],” Ronaldo said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano on X.
Fans react to Cristiano Ronaldo’s statement

This statement has sparked reactions from fans on social media, some of whom believe the Al Nassr star made the statement out of resentment for his inability to win the prestigious World Cup award, which his longtime rival, Lionel Messi, possesses.
One fan said on X, ”This guy is the biggest loser in football history.”
Another irritated user wrote, ”Such a bitter guy, that’s why Messi is very clear. As long as he has no World Cup, he’s still Messi’s boy.”
A third commented, ”Euros is nowhere near the World Cup, Ronaldo is fond of talking down on every trophy or award he doesn’t win. It’s bad of him, well it’s actually sad.”
While a fourth said, ”You’re not motivated but you told pierce Morgan than you deserve it,” referencing an interview where the Ronaldo had expressed desire to win the World Cup.
A fifth said, ”Because you can’t win it, you’re saying it’s equivalent to Euros. Why didn’t Messi say Copa America is equal to World Cup?? 😂😂 Bro couldn’t even score at the 2024 Euros.”
Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi rivalry

The Cristiano Ronaldo-Lionel Messi rivalry has been an agelong one, with fans of both players debating about who the greatest of all times is between them.
While Ronaldo has won the European Championship and the Uefa Nations League with Portugal, Messi has won the Copa America twice, and also topped his international collections with a World Cup trophy.
With Messi winning the World Cup, his fans believe the GOAT debate has been settled; however, Ronaldo supporters, argue that their ‘fave’ is still the best, while giving reasons to support their assertion.
