After recovering from an injury, the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Player of the Tournament will captain the Super Eagles in their games against Rwanda and the Cheetahs.
William Troost-Ekong has reassured Nigerian fans that the team has learned from its recent setbacks and are prepared to turn things around in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Benin Republic, Super Eagles defender.
Ekong missed the Super Eagles’ two World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic in June. The team gained only one point from six, losing to Benin after a draw with South Africa.
Ekong on Nigeria vs Benin clash
Speaking ahead of the Nigeria vs Benin game, Troost-Ekong expressed disappointment with the team’s 2026 World Cup qualifying performances following an outstanding 2023 AFCON in which they placed second.
“We will be more ready. I think it happens, good teams face difficult moments,” Troost-Ekong told Victor Modo’s YouTube
“We have to learn from those mistakes, so it is not going to be easy these two games against Benin and Rwanda away but I have a lot of belief in the team and we are going to prepare ourselves the best way we can.”
The Super Eagles will look to bounce back from recent struggles and will be aiming to take all maximum points and hope their change at the helm counts for something.
