Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva has expressed frustration over the hectic football schedule after learning the Cityzens will play two games in three days.
After returning from international duty, the club already has a demanding schedule that includes a massive Premier League derby against Arsenal and a pivotal Champions League match against Inter Milan.
Unforeseen events have forced them to play Watford in the Carabao Cup as well, 49 hours after their meeting against the Gunners.
Bernardo Silva expressed his displeasure with the packed football calendar before playing a full 90 minutes for Portugal against Croatia. The 29-year-old midfielder was asked about the hectic schedule ahead of the match and did not mince his words.
What Bernado Silva said
The winger said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano on X.
“The schedule is completely crazy. We’ve just received the news that we only have one day off for the English League Cup game”.
“We’ll probably play every three days for months. It’s been absolutely absurd.
“In the Champions League, if you don’t qualify for the round of 16 you still have to play two more games. It’s true that the squads are bigger, but I’m not going to say that it’s easy”.
“It hasn’t been easy. I spend very little time with my family and friends. The amount of games we’re subjected to is absolutely absurd”
Bernado Silva is not the only one unimpressed by the hectic schedule this season. His manager, Pep Guardiola, also complained about the same issue a couple of months ago, stating the adverse effect the new development might leave on players.
