“They should have substituted him earlier” Sam Elijah blasts Super Eagles star over terrible display

Now, ex-Super Eagles left back Sam Elijah has called for the benching of Bayern Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface following his pathetic performance during the 3-0 spanking of Benin in Tuesday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualification match.

Boniface started in attack for the Super Eagles but failed to have any impact in the game as he was substituted by Victor Osimhen in the second half.

Sam Elijah’s Critique of Boniface

Speaking with allnigeriasoccer in an interview, Elijah complained over Boniface’s display, saying he should have been substituted earlier.

‘’I can tell you that Boniface was not great today. He was even out of the game,’’ Elijah responded.

He continued, “For me, he would have been changed even earlier. I think there was a day that was not so good for him. However, he is really a very good striker.

Prior to the game, Sportsbuddy reported that Victor Boniface had dismissed the idea of having a home-based coach for the Nigerian national team.

Praising Nigeria’s Commitment and Preparation

However, to some extent, Elijah criticised Boniface, while at the same time, he paid more compliments to the overall team performance of Nigeria, noting that their striking and preparation were better than what he observed in their previous match against Benin in June.

He said, “The seriousness and commitment from the boys today are impressive; the preparation is also good enough as compared to the one we played away.”

He added that the team has improved in the attacking and defending styles, which led to their victory.

Nigeria is scheduled to feature in the next match in the AFCON qualifying round on the 10th of September, 2019 against Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

The Super Eagles are also expected to place strong emphasis on their good run and ensure they qualify for the 2025 championship.
