The Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, often referred to as the Nest of Champions, has been adopted as the official home ground for the Super Eagles of Nigeria since 2022.
This Uyo-based stadium, which has a seating capacity of 30,000, has been adopted as the team’s preferred venue for all their international matches because of a number of factors.

Modern Infrastructure and International Standards
This stadium was constructed in 2014 by Julius Berger Nigeria and is an architectural replication of the Allianz Arena; the stadium boasts of being fully CAF compliant.
High-security measures are featured as bulletproof VVIP sections, media boxes, electronic score boards, floodlights, and even a helipad to culminate this nest of champions as one of the most technologically advanced sporting venues in Africa.
Furthermore, it has standby power, an emergency exit, and advanced crowd control that make it suitable for hosting high-profile matches. For a nation like Nigeria, this is not good enough.
CAF’s Approval for International Matches

The Super Eagles have not played any international matches in Nigeria since 2022; this is because the Nest of Champions is the only stadium with approval to host a home-based match from CAF.
While most stadiums in Nigeria lack the high-class facilities needed for international match provisions, the Nest of Champions stands alone as the only stadium that has been accredited by the CAF.
This makes it the most suitable ground for holding all Nigerian international games to streamline the safety and comfort of the players and the followers.
It is quite shocking that a mammoth nation like Nigeria has just one stadium with the juice to be approved by CAF.
South Africa hosted the FIFA World Cup 14 years ago, and they were well equipped to host the most prestigious football competition in the world.
This ground was used in the recent match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in the AFCON qualifiers, where the Super Eagles swept away the Cheetahs as Victor Osimhen made history.
A Centre for Culture, Politics, and Sports

However, beyond football, the Nest of Champions has been used to host social, cultural, and even political and religious activities, making it a multipurpose facility.
This place is significant for the people inhabiting this area and the entire country, therefore strengthening the role of the stadium as the home ground for the Super Eagles.
These great infractions and international certification have placed the Nest of Champions as the Super Eagles home base for all home games.
