Recently, Victor Ikpeba, a former forward for the Super Eagles and AS Monaco, urged the Nigerian national team to move quickly to gain George Ilenikhena’s international allegiance after the player’s remarkable performance in the UEFA Champions League.
The 18-year-old Lagos-born star made headlines last week when he scored against Barcelona in the elite competition to become Monaco’s youngest player ever to do so, surpassing Kylian Mbappe’s record, per Football Tweet.
He also etched his name in history to become the only player in the UCL to score in back-to-back games against one team, while playing for two different teams, having scored the winner for Royal Antwerp against the Spanish powerhouses the previous season.
Ilenikhena then continued his impressive performance in the league, providing an assist to help Monaco to a 3-1 win over Le Havre on Sunday.
Ikpeba on George Ilenikhena

Ikpeba, in awe of the youngster’s talent, has advised the Nigerian Football Federation to try to lure him, despite previously representing France at the youth level.
“I have been following the remarkable progress of the boy, he’s quick and will certainly be one for the future for the Super Eagles,” Ikpeba told Score Nigeria.
“I know that he has already been capped by the French age-grade team, but we can still get him to play for the Super Eagles.
”It will be a tough battle, but with the right and timely approach, beginning with getting to his family, he can go on to play for Nigeria,” he added.
Is George Ilenikhena a valuable addition to the Super Eagles?
Despite the Super Eagles’ abundance of attacking talent, including Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen, and Taiwo Awoniyi, the young Monaco star would undoubtedly be a valuable addition to the squad.
While still developing his skills, his undeniable talent suggests he could become one of the best attackers Nigeria has ever seen.
