Green Falcons’ Women’s Rugby W’Cup 2025 preparation starts as they technically edged Kenya to become first-ever World Series entrant in MEA history.
The Nigeria women’s rugby team, the Green Falcons, defeated their Kenyan to become the first-ever Middle East-Africa MEA women’s team to qualify for the Rugby League World Cup Series.
Green Falcons made MEA history
Nigeria and Kenya clashed in the first-ever rugby league Women’s World Cup qualifier in Africa, with the two-legged tie hosted by Kenya Rugby League at the NYS Headquarters in Nairobi.
Despite the home support enjoyed by their opponent, Nigeria won the first match 22-14 on Thursday. However, Kenya recovered from the setback to win the second match 8-0 on Sunday.
With the aggregate score tied on 22 each and both scoring four ties each on the entirety of the series, the Nigerian team, who kicked 3 goals to 2 by Kenya, also kicked 2 field goals proceeds as Africa’s sole representative to the inaugural 2025 World Series.
The Green Falcons, first-ever MEA Women’s team in the competition, will also be Africa’s only representative in the World Series, where they will compete with heavyweights from other continents like Europe, Americans and Asia-Pacific.
The winner of the 2025 World Series gets an automatic slot for the IRL Women’s World Cup 2026 alongside England, Papua New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand, Wales, and France.
