Hat-trick hero Christopher Nkunku becomes No.3 to achieve an impressive Chelsea feat

Hat-trick hero Christopher Nkunku becomes the third Frenchman to score a hat-trick for Chelsea in the 5-0 Carabao Cup win over Barrow on Tuesday night.

The 26-year-old completed a brace in the opening 15 minutes to help Chelsea establish a two-goal lead against the third division club thanks to assists from Joao Felix and Malo Gusto.

Nkunku completed his hat-trick with 15 minutes left to play in Stamford Bridge, pouncing on another goalkeeper howler to make it 5-0 to the host before his withdrawal.

The three goals saw him became only the third Frenchman to score a hat-trick for Chelsea after Nicolas Anelka and Olivier Giroud. An achievement that eluded French legend Florent Malouda, who spent six seasons at Chelsea between 2007 and 2013.

“I feel very happy [after scoring a hat-trick]. But the most important thing was the win. We wanted to be serious and do a serious game. That’s what we did, so we are all happy.” Nkunku said at full-time.

Nkunku has now scored nine goals for Chelsea since his move from RB Leipzig in the 2023 summer and will be looking gain more opportunities in prominent matches in the near future.
