Fullback Bright Osayi-Samuel of the Super Eagles experienced a remarkable return to action as Fenerbahce won 2-1 against Union Saint-Gilloise in their UEFA Europa League debut.
The contest began in a favourable way for Fenerbahce, thanks to Çağlar Söyüncü’s goal in the 26th minute off a superb cut-back header from Rodrigo Franca Becao.
In closing stages, Fenerbahce effectively went two goals ahead when Osayi-Samuel’s attempt from within the box produced an own goal from Christian Burgess of Union Saint-Gilloise. Regardless of Ross James Sykes’ late goal in added time, Fenerbahce clinched victory.

Having been liberated by the Turkish FA in April after a chaotic situation following Fenerbahce’s 3-2 defeat in the Turkish Super Lig, Osayi-Samuel returned to play after an injury in the 65th minute.
Having missed the previous four league matches because of injury, he came on as a substitute for Mert Müldür.
Unfortunately, his comeback was marred by a red card, the first of his career.
Osayi-Samuel drew a yellow card for time-wasting in the 87th minute before getting sent off three minutes later for a foul that occurred inside the box. Luckily, thanks to the save on the penalty kick by Fenerbahce goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic, they maintained their lead.
Boost for Super Eagles
Under new coach Jose Mourinho, Osayi-Samuel had been a vital player in Fenerbahce’s opening six matches prior to his injury.
Austin Eguavoen, the interim manager of the Super Eagles, is benefiting from Ighalo’s return as he looks ahead to a crucial double-header against Libya.
Thanks to his return, the squad will be stronger as he sat out the previous matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda because of his injury.
