A Mallorca fan who racially abused Vinicius Júnior and Samuel Chukwueze during the 2022-23 campaign has been sentenced to 12 months in prison and another three years stadium ban.
During the league meeting between Mallorca and Real Madrid at the San Moix stadium in February 2023, the fan could be heard in video calling Vinicius Júnior a monkey. Two weeks later in the same venue, the same fan was again at it, with Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze his victim.
Laliga fan receives a 12-month jail term
In an official statement released by Laliga, the unnamed aggressor had his 12-month sentence suspended after apologising in a letter to Vinicius Júnior and doing anti-discrimination training.
In addition, the Laliga fan has also been handed a three-year stadium fan.
In response to the judgement, Real Madrid has said; “This is the third criminal conviction handed down in recent months for racist insults received by Real Madrid players. Real Madrid … will keep working to protect the club’s values and erradicate any racist behaviour in the world of football and sport.”
The incidence happened to Samuel Chukwueze while he was at Villarreal before joining AC Milan in the summer of 2023.
