Nigerian strikers had a rough weekend in Europe, with some of them having to sit out of their respective teams’ matches.

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen scored two goals in the game then suffered a setback as he was forced to be substituted in the second half while his team, Galatasaray, let a 3-goal lead slip against Kasimpasa.

Gift Orban was also benched to be out of the Lyon squad that was to play against Toulouse. The latest in this series of tribulations is Cyril Dessers, who was benched for Rangers’ starting lineup.

Rangers Coach Explains Strikers’ Absence

Speaking about the reason why he decided not to include Dessers in the starting line-up during the Rangers’ 1-0 victory against Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership match, Rangers manager Philippe Clement explained.

Tom Lawrence’s goal, which was awarded after the use of VAR, was the decisive one.

According to The Herald, Clement said, “It is only a few days after the Malmo game and Dessers received a knock in that match; that is why he is not ready for today.”

Clement also pointed out that Dessers has played many minutes, and it is time to give the newly recruited Hamza Igamane the starting position.

Dessers’ Impact and Future

There were assumptions that the Eagles striker would be off in the summer, but he has become an essential player for Rangers and performed better than in the previous season.

The Eagles striker is also among the best goalscorers in the Scottish Premiership this season, having scored three goals.

The next match for Rangers will be against Olympique Lyonnais in the UEFA Europa League.
