Bayer Leverkusen striker, Victor Boniface recently opened up on how he is being inspired by Victor Osimhen’s aggressiveness on the field of play.
Boniface revealed this in an interview while also sharing the skills he has picked up from watching players like Neymar, Robinho, former Newcastle midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa, and ex-Arsenal star Santi Carzola.
The Nigerian attacker had a stellar 2023-2024 campaign with Leverkusen, contributing to 31 goals in 34 appearances while helping Xabi Alonso’s men to a domestic double in grand style.
He has continued this season in similar fashion, scoring four goals and providing an assist in six appearances.
Boniface reveals source of inspiration
Speaking to SportyTV, Boniface revealed how watching the aforementioned players on Youtube has played a major role in his career.
“There are four players I watch. If you come to my house, put my YouTube I watch them even before games. I watch Neymar number one, Hatem Ben Arfa, Robinho and Santi Cazorla.
“If you watch my games, you see me in the midfield trying to create something, that’s the type of player,” he said.
The 23-year-old striker, renowned for his playful demeanor on and off the pitch, also revealed that he tries to add a touch of steel and fierceness to his game.
Boniface on how Osimhen inspires him
While manager Alonso implied that his playfulness sometimes appears to rub off on his approach to on-field actions, Boniface revealed that he tries to learn how to be aggressive, watching fellow Nigerian striker Osimhen.
“Every striker, like Victor Osimhen, for example, he has this aggressiveness in his game; he’s a fighter, so I try to learn that from Victor also. I try to learn from all these players I mentioned also,” he added.
Meanwhile, Osimhen recently opened his goal-scoring account for his new-club Galatasaray with a brace against Kasimpasa, also breaking a seven-year record at the club.
Both players could make the Super Eagles squad for the doubleheader against Libya in October, provided no injury is seen before then.
