Super Eagles caretaker coach, Augustine Eguavoen, remains optimistic about the team’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite their disappointing performance in the ongoing qualifiers.
Currently, Nigeria, a three-time African champion, sits near the bottom of their group with only three points from four matches. In contrast, Rwanda, South Africa, and Benin Republic are leading the pack, all tied with seven points from the same number of games.
Augustine Eguavoen Believes Super Eagles can Qualify for World Cup

Augustine Eguavoen firmly believes that the Super Eagles still have a fighting chance to turn their fortunes around in the qualifiers.
He emphasized the importance of a strong mentality among the players, insisting that a positive mindset is crucial for achieving their goal of securing a spot in the World Cup.
According to him, if the team can rally together, focus on their strengths, and work diligently in their upcoming matches, they can still achieve success and restore pride to Nigerian football.
“It has to be with positive thinking (for Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup),” Eguavoen told Brila FM.
“We have to approach every game like a cup final and we have a big chance once we keep winning these remaining games even if it were by 1-0.”
