French tactician Herve Renard has confirmed he had to turn down the offer of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to become the head coach of Super Eagles, after the Federation parted companies with Finidi George, because it was not the best offer for him.
The former Ivory Coast manager was one of the speculated replacements for Finidi George before the name of Bruno Labbadia emerged and was announced as the 37th head coach of the Nigeria’s national team.

Renard, a successful foreign manager in African football having won two AFCON titles with Zambia and Ivory Coast, wwhile he also helped Morocco reach their first FIFA World Cup tournament since 1998, in 2018.

Speaking in an interview with French sport outlet L’Équipe, the three time CAF coach of the year was quoted saying;
“I almost went to Nigeria. I weighed the pros and cons for several days, even weeks, before deciding to turn it down. It was the best offer I had received, but ultimately, it wasn’t the right fit for me.”
The NFF is still in search of a permanent coach for the national team after agreement broke down with Labbadia. Austin Eguavoen continues to fill in as the interim boss and will again be on the sideline dishing out orders to the players when the October qualifiers come to life later in the month.
