Ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash between Arsenal and Southampton, Saints goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has finally opened up on his ordeals with the Gunners after falling out of favour with Mikel Arteta.
Despite an impressive 2022-2023 campaign with Arsenal, making the Premier League Team of the Season, Ramsdale was relegated to the bench following David Raya’s arrival on loan from Brentford last season before ultimately signing a permanent deal this summer.
This resulted in the England international moving to St Mary’s for £25 million during the summer transfer window.
The goalkeeper surprisingly revealed what he detested most about his situation, breaking his silence over his stint as a substitute for the North Londoners.

Every time Raya made a mistake in goal last season, the cameras would frequently cut to Ramsdale, observing the former Sheffield United keeper’s reaction.
And this left him livid, as he recently revealed in an interview with BBC.
What Aaron Ramsdale said
He said, as quoted by SunSports “It used to do my head in.
“Coming off the pitch and then my wife would say, ‘You were on TV five times again today’.
“Why someone would pan to me when someone makes a save or a goal goes in and it pans to me on the bench.
“I do think the story was bigger than what it needed to be. I do think it put pressure on David at time as well.”
On Saturday, Ramsdale makes his first visit to the Emirates as an opponent following his transfer to Southampton.
