AFCON 2025 : Nigerians question Golden Ball winner’s inclusion, and others, in qualifiers squad
Nigerians are not particularly impressed with the latest Super Eagles squad announced by interim manager Austin Eguavoen to represent the country in the upcoming AFCON 2025 qualifiers against Libya.
Super Eagles will be missing star striker Victor, who picked up an injury while representing his club Galatasaray in the Super Lig last weekend, but the inclusion of struggling players like Kelechi Iheanacho, Samuel Chukwueze and Benjamin Taminu has not gone down well with Nigerians.

Fans in the country have criticized the interim manager Austin Eguavoen for the selection of players who have been underwhelming for their respective clubs since the start of the season.
Amongst the famous names mentioned is Kelechi Iheanacho, the 2013 U-17 FIFA World Cup Golden Ball winner, who has struggled since his move to Sevilla in the European summer.
Others include Samuel Chukwueze of AC Milan, who is becoming an outcast at his club, Taiwo Awoniyi of Nottingham Forest, who is yet to score a goal since February, and Benjamin Taminu of English League Two side, Crawley Town, yet to make a single appearance.
Some of the reactions generated from the announcement of the October games squad on X include;
