The Nigeria Football Federation president, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau has expressed confidence in the Super Eagles abilities to qualify for the 2026 World cup in Qatar.
The three-time AFCON Champions have failed to secure a victory in any of their qualifying matches, having played three 1-1 draws against Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and South Africa before suffering a 2-1 defeat against Gernot Rohr’s Benin Republic back in June, leaving them in fifth position, four points behind leaders Rwanda.

NFF president confident on Super Eagles World Cup qualification

Despite the terrible start, Gusau maintained his faith in the team’s ability to turn things around and is certain that what happened in 2022 will not happen again.
“I have much confidence we will qualify for the next World Cup in 2026. I know we have a very bad start, having just three points from four matches, but if you look at the momentum now there is a level of progress.
Everybody knows what is at stake and we are surely going to do our best to support the team. We have just started our qualifiers for the next Nations Cup in Morocco 2025 and by the grace of God that would breakthrough to our fourth AFCON title,” the NFF President said as quoted by TV360.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles prepare to take on Libya in their two-leg AFCON 2025 qualifier clash.
The first game will take place on Friday at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, while the second game will take place in Libya on Wednesday of the following week.
