The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has expressed dismay over the standard of playing pitches in the country saying only the Nest of Champions in Uyo is in a standard to host grade A matches.
These remarks came after Gusau inspected the reconstruction of the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi, the Benue State capital with Governor Alia Hyacinth.

Hope for Aper Aku Stadium
Gusau was pleased with what his team has been doing at the Aper Aku Stadium and lauded Governor Alia for his effort in improving the stadiums.
According to the allafrica.com, The NFF president said, “I am very impressed with what I am seeing on the ground,” and called for more facilities to be developed to global benchmarks.
However, in a statement that could reopen hope for the Super Eagles home matches to be shifted to the Aper Aku stadium, NFF’S chairman Gusau said his technical team is planning to work with contractors to ensure the stadium meets the set standards.

NFF Focus on Grassroots Football

The NFF President also equally reiterated his support on grassroots football development stating that the organization intended to kick start competitions that has been inactive such as the Governor’s Cup for the under 15 and under 17 teams.

He insisted that such programs are instrumental in the search for young talents within the country, hence putting to a stop the trend whereby clubs such as Lobi Stars recruits talents from outside the state.
According to Governor Alia, Gusau’s visit was highly appreciated; he personally promised to supervise the construction of the stadium with the aim of attaining the required standards.
