Hugo Viana will advocate for Ruben Amorim as Pep Guardiola’s successor, if he lands the director of football role at Manchester City.
Txiki Begiristain, who has guided City to incredible success over the past 12 years, will leave his position as director of football at the end of the current campaign.
After enjoying success with Barcelona, the Spaniard accepted the position in 2012 and, four years later, reunited with Guardiola in Manchester, where he had played a key part in luring the coach to the team.

However, Begiristain is set to leave the team after this season, as the club search for a replacement.
Amorim to replace Guardiola as City’s boss
According to the Record, Viana is seen as the leading candidate, and the former midfielder plans to bring Amorim to the Premier League with him.
Guardiola’s current deal with City expires at the end of the current campaign, and neither he nor the team have indicated that they plan to extend it.
The former Barcelona manager has previously stated that his choice to sign contract extensions in 2018–2020 and 2022 was largely influenced by Begiristain’s presence. With the sporting director’s imminent departure, Guardiola’s future with the club becomes bleak.
Meanwhile, Amorim, has a contract with Sporting, which lasts till 2026 but has been targeted by clubs in the Premier League.
