Super Eagles interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has criticized Libya for showing too much respect to his team during their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Friday.
The Libyan side frustrated the Super Eagles with delay tactics throughout most of the match, slowing down the game and trying to disrupt Nigeria’s rhythm.

Augustine Eguavoen Unhappy with Libya’s Tactics
Despite Libya’s attempts to waste time, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s 86th-minute goal secured a 1-0 victory for Nigeria.

Speaking after the match, Augustine Eguavoen expressed his displeasure with the Mediterranean Knights’ approach, saying that their time-wasting made the game more difficult than it should have been.
He praised his team for staying focused and finding the winning goal but emphasized the need to handle such situations better in the future.
“We have a time keeper also in the name of Thomas, he told reporters.
“Actually they wasted like fourteen, fifteen minutes out of the 45 minutes which is not so good.
“They are a good side. You can see that they move the ball if they wanted to move, but now trying to bring such strategies, I don’t think it’s a good thing.
“Maybe they over-respected us. They thought probably if they come out at the initial stage they are going to get a lot of goals behind them. I don’t know if that is the way they want to play.”
