Super Eagles coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has shed light on the key issue affecting striker Victor Boniface’s performances for the national team, particularly his lack of goals.
According to Eguavoen, Boniface tends to overthink his shots, trying to “dress and dress” the ball before taking a decision to strike, which often leads to missed opportunities in front of goal.

Victor Boniface’s Struggles in Front of Goal
Victor Boniface once again failed to find the back of the net during Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Libya in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Friday evening at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Despite his work rate and contribution to the team, the Bayer Leverkusen forward is yet to break his goal drought for the Super Eagles.

This continues a frustrating spell for Boniface, who also failed to score in the previous matches against Rwanda and Benin Republic last month.
Eguavoen remains confident in Boniface’s abilities but emphasized the need for the forward to simplify his game, encouraging him to act quicker in front of goal.
“Boniface is a very good striker, a clinical finisher, but he has struggled in national colors,” Eguavoen said at his post-match press conference after Nigeria defeated Libya.
“Sometimes, these chances don’t come. I remember it happened in Rwanda just like today. When you get half chances, players like Romario would toe-poke the ball.
“But Boniface likes to dress and dress and then defenders recover. If he decides on time, Boniface will score a lot of goals.”
