The Nigeria Football Federation has expressed sorrow over the tragic incident involving the killing of SuperSport press members en route to Uyo on Tuesday, 8th October, to cover the Super Eagles AFCON qualifiers against Libya.
The NFF confirmed that the crew’s bus was ambushed along the Ihiala-Orlu road in Anambra State by unknown gunmen, who opened fire on the travelers, resulting in the deaths of a cameraman, a policeman, and the driver.

NFF mourns deaths of diseased

In a statement release on Saturday, the federation mourned the death of the individuals, also commiserating with their family for the heartbreaking loss.
“Information gathered on the incident revealed that the bandits opened fire on the bus in which the SuperSport operatives were travelling, with Staff and security personnel on board, and the attack immediately resulted in the deaths of a cameraman, a police officer, and the bus driver,” the NFF wrote on Saturday.
NFF president Ibrahim Gusau stated that although Nigeria defeated Libya 1-0 in Friday’s encounter in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, the incident has cast a shadow over the Super Eagles’ victory.
“Yes, we won the match against Libya and took three points, but the fact that three lives were lost created a situation in which we were unable to celebrate properly, and it hurts seriously to even think back at the unfortunate incident,” Gusau said, Gusau said, as seen in quotes on This Day Live.
