The Confederation of African Football (CAF) could hand three points and three goals to Libya if Nigeria’s Super Eagles follow through with their threat to boycott the second leg of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
This game follows Nigeria’s 1-0 win over the Mediterranean Knights at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, where Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s late goal sealed the victory.
However, trouble started ahead of the return fixture in Benina, Libya. The Super Eagles delegation has been stranded for over 15 hours at Al Abraq Airport, unable to proceed to their destination.

Super Eagles Ready to Boycott
Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, expressed his frustrations on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
“As the captain together with the team, we have decided that we will NOT play this game,” Troost-Ekong declared, demanding that CAF intervene. He further added, “Even if they decide to allow this kind of behaviour, let them have the points.”
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is reportedly considering flying the team back home. Should this happen, CAF could penalize Nigeria for refusing to play, potentially awarding Libya the points.
On the other hand, if CAF concludes that Libya deliberately mistreated the Nigerian team, sanctions and fines may be imposed on the North Africans.
The situation remains tense as the football world awaits CAF’s decision.
