Williams Troost-Ekong recently voiced his displeasure about Libya’s mistreatment, revealing that the Super Eagles plan to abandon their AFCON qualifier match against the Mediterranean Knights, scheduled for Tuesday, October 14.
The Nigerian national team made the trip to Benghazi for the second leg of their AFCON qualifiers against Libya but were diverted to Al Abraq Airport in Bayda, where they have been stuck for over 12 hours.

Reports claimed the players and staff have been left stranded at the airport with no transportation or reception provided and are expected to travel three hours by road back to Benghazi, the city in which the match will be played.

What Super Eagles captain Troost-Ekong said

As a result, Troost-Ekong has taken to his social media account on Instagram to express his distaste.
The 31-year-old defender believes it was a deliberate act from Libya’s authorities to try to unsettle the Super Eagles before the game and has revealed that he and his teammates will boycott the game.
He wrote,
”We have kept our spirit up, but these are no conditions we will accept when done on purpose.
”Travelling by road is not safe here, and you can only imagine how they would treat us in the hotel or the food they will try to give us.
”It was funny before, but as a team we respect ourselves, and under these conditions we won’t play. @caf_online.”
The Nigeria Football Federation has also issued a statement on the situation, as plans for the players’ return are being put in place.
