The Libyan Football Federation is in a state of alarm after receiving a request from CAF to provide documents regarding the cancellation of their AFCON Group D qualifier against Nigeria, reports claim.
The match was called off after Nigeria’s national team refused to play, following their plane’s diversion to Al Abraq Airport, where they were held for 18 hours without food or water.

CAF gives ultimatum for provision of documents

Speaking to Libya Al-Ahrar Channel, Nasser Al-Suwaie, Secretary-General of the Libyan FA, confirmed that both Libya and Nigeria have until the 20th of this month to submit the necessary documents.
Al-Suwaie stated that a specialised lawyer has been hired to present evidence, and while he hinted at possible collusion within CAF, he insisted that Libya’s position remains strong.
Al-Suwaie further clarified that the decision to divert the plane to Labraq was made by the Libyan state, not the Federation, stressing that the sovereignty of Libya must be respected.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Super Eagles returned home with grim stories of their ordeal.
According to team manager Patrick Pascal, players had to take turns sleeping on the bare floor of the airport, and he claimed that Libyan officials had deliberately left the toilets in unsanitary conditions ahead of their arrival.
