Wilshere lands Norwich job after two years with Arsenal’s U-18
Wilshere has spent the last two years as head coach of Arsenal’s U18s, following his retirement from professional football in 2022. He will now take his first senior first-team coaching role, joining Johannes Hoff Thorup’s staff at Carrow Road.
He is expected to replace Narcis Pelach, who left Norwich last month to become Stoke City’s manager. This move is reportedly seen as a key step forward in Wilshere’s coaching career, particularly given his young age.
Wilshere’s relationship with Norwich sporting director Ben Knapper is understood to have played a role in securing the opportunity. Knapper previously worked as Arsenal’s loan manager during Wilshere’s time at the club.
The former England international was forced to retire at 30 due to recurring injuries that plagued his playing career.
After rising through the ranks at Arsenal and spending 10 years with the senior team, Wilshere played for West Ham, Bournemouth, and Danish team Aarhus GF before retiring due to injury.
He became the head coach of Arsenal’s U18 team shortly after hanging up his boots, guiding the team to the FA Youth Cup final in his debut season as manager, which they eventually lost to West Ham.
