CAF President Patrice Motsepe has addressed the harsh treatment the Super Eagles of Nigeria experienced in Libya, condemning the incident and pledging firm action.
During CAF’s 46th Ordinary General Assembly in Addis Ababa on Tuesday, Motsepe emphasized that the Confederation of African Football will not tolerate such inhuman conditions for any team and vowed that an investigation is underway to determine the appropriate steps forward.
The controversy stems from Nigeria’s national team facing significant hardships during their October international break, ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier in Libya.

Patrice Motsepe Said Investigation is Ongoing
The Super Eagles’ flight to Benghazi was diverted to the remote Al Abraq Airport, hours away from their intended destination.
The team was then stranded for over 15 hours without access to basic necessities such as food, water, or internet.
“We should have zero tolerance. When there was this problem of the Nigerian national team in Libya, I will not comment on that because there is a proper investigation,” Patrice Motsepe stated. “But I want to emphasise a principle that we will not tolerate.”
Motsepe noted that this issue extends beyond just the Nigeria vs. Libya incident, highlighting that similar situations have occurred elsewhere. He assured that CAF would take strong, decisive action once the investigation is complete.
