Former Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit has singled out Moises Caicedo as the Premier League’s best midfielder this season, ranking him ahead of Gunners’ own Declan Rice and Thomas Partey.
Caicedo’s strong form continued with an outstanding display at Anfield, where he set up Nicolas Jackson’s goal.
The 22-year-old Ecuadorian has found his rhythm after a slow start following his huge money transfer to Chelsea.
Despite early challenges, Caicedo has been instrumental in Chelsea’s positive start to the season, with statistics recently revealed by Sports Buddy showing the former Brighton man outclassing Gunners defensive midfielder Declan Rice in almost every possible aspect.
His ability to dictate play was evident as he completed two key through balls at Anfield, the only Chelsea player to do so.
Caicedo’s growing influence at the club has also been underlined by his leadership, having captained the side on multiple occasions.
Petit Declan Rice, Partey, calls Caicedo best midfielder in the league this season
Petit’s admiration for the Chelsea midfielder is clear.
According to a post shared by Vince on X.com, the Frenchman labelled Caicedo the best midfielder in the league, saying,
“I think he [Caicedo] has certainly been the best midfielder in the league this season. I don’t like even calling him a holding midfielder as he’s so much better than that. For me, he’s a modern midfielder and definitely one of the best players this season.”
While Petit’s view is difficult to dismiss, Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch has also enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign. Still, Chelsea fans have plenty to be excited about, especially with Caicedo forming a promising partnership alongside Romeo Lavia, a duo that could potentially become one of the league’s best.
